Army guard should have allowed them in
Chronology
The story of American photographer Lee Miller, a fashion model who became a renowned war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II. "The Life of Lee Miller" is the only authorized biography of Lee Miller’s life, written by his own son Anthony Penrose and published in 1985. Miller is denied entry to Hitler’s apartment because it is “Officers Only”. War correspondents were given the rank of captain, so technically a U.S.
He appeared in the October 21, 2024 episode of The 7PM Project: Episode 2024 (2024)
Lee Miller: [Hands a knife to a girl he has just saved from rape] Cut it next time.. The closing credits feature some "what happened" explanations; and some of Lee’s original photos, often with photos retouched for the film. "Lee" realizes his vision: To tell the truth about Lee Miller, and thus tell the truth about life, pain, joy, & embedded in his photographs. As the audience can see everything through Kate Winslet’s eyes, as she watches every single eye movement, mouth/lip crease, breath, etc.
Lee is not about war
I love that the film doesn’t have to present the already known shocking scenes, but just by looking at them through Kate’s eyes, WE CAN SEE THEM. That’s what makes the film so powerful. It’s about a beautiful woman who is intelligent, honest and bold (so Kate plays Lee Miller perfectly). The IMMENSE challenges she faced to seek out the truth and then tell the truth by capturing the images.
The well-known bath scene is magical
The careful, anticipatory construction of one of the most iconic images is worth the price alone. The film manages to include some hilarity, as if to give the audience a brief respite from this historic moment. The effectiveness of the 2 door slams is brilliant. There is also some funny "drunk acting" that lends some levity to the most horrific circumstances of World War II.
I discovered new important details & distinctions each time
I saw this film four times at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival): 2 public screenings and 2 press & industry screenings, from 4 different locations in the theater, intentionally.
