Bright teenager Karin is abandoned by her father in rural Japan. While living at the temple with her grandfather, she meets Anzu, a giant “spirit cat” and notorious slacker whose job it is to take care of her. Distrustful of her new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu’s odd jobs for the townspeople and befriends the eccentric spirits of the local forest. In an attempt to capture Karin, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the devil and all hell breaks loose.
