Chronology
It spans four tumultuous decades during The Troubles in Northern Ireland
The real Dolours Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea.
During that time, Rea appeared in the film for which he is probably best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game
In that film, Rea plays Fergus, an extremely reluctant and ambivalent member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA)–the same organization with which Price was involved for many years.
Really well acted across the multiple age periods of the main characters
I highly suggest reading the book for additional context/information, but the series does a fantastic job of covering the material.
Overall an incredibly well-done miniseries
For me, the bigger themes are: -in war, everyone thinks they are on the right side -how far will you go for a cause you believe in and what happens when that belief is tested or weakened -the sacrificial pawns of war who carry the most risk tend to be easily discarded in the end -the larger "code" the silence within communities sometimes goes too far – the spoils of war usually go to bureaucrats, not soldiers.
