Retired Charles gets a new lease on life when he answers a private investigator’s call and becomes a mole in a secret investigation of a nursing home
Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says: “The documentary “The Mole Agent” is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar across age groups, ethnicities, or genders, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way: “I have to call my mom.” In our show, we tried to do something similar with the tone: Basically, does our show promote the feeling that we want to call our moms?.
Remake of the film El agente topo (2020)
I think the natural goal of many works of fiction is to make you think something like: “It was an honor to share the lives of these fictional characters.” This show undoubtedly achieves that goal well.
Good luck to all the departments involved
Even those who come looking for a mystery that puts less emphasis on it should be captivated by the humanity that shows not only in the writing but also in each actor.
While Netflix has been tough on renewing series lately, I hope they realize the potential of this series by giving them a season 2, because I hope to see more of these incredible characters’ journeys
