THE INSPIRING STORY OF GINA MARGARET TIGER – @thatafricangold

Resilient, hardworking, driven and ambitious are the words to describe this young woman. Born African, Gina, also known as Gina Tigere or @thatafricangold on socials,  did not have it easy growing up, her dream was to eradicate poverty in her family.

From cleaning toilets from one house to the other, at the age of 16 she was so eager to pay for her studies at the Cambridge home school in Fish Hoek, Cape Town where she studied IT. She went from cleaning houses to working in a local fish and chips store, to selling clothes, perfumes and eventually building websites.

She was destined to make her dreams of eradicating poverty come true. 

At age 21, Gina lost her mother to suicide. 

Gina’s mother was her number one supporter, her backbone and the reason behind her drive to succeed. 

Despite the tragic event of her mom, Gina had to find courage to move past this phase of her life, so she kept going. 

Just after her matric, she started applying for internships. Her website design experience landed her an internship at ROI MEDIA which is now called ROI DIGITAL. For the first 6 months she learnt SEO and how the search engine works and the next year and half, she worked as an  assistant to the CEO Allen Jaffe and General Manager Julie-Anne Walsh who is now CMO of Takealot.com. 

Spending time with these two powerhouse, She learnt a lot about running a business, marketing, great communication skills and understanding value and ethics required to be successful. After 2 yrs, she left the company to join the payments giant ozow.com. 

The 12 months spent with the company was the most eye opening experience for her. She learnt how to manage client accounts, business acquisition, social media marketing and the secret ingredient to being successful. 

After serving In the corporate world, she decided to start her agency now called ‘Be Digital’  with the motto “Become Digitally involved this instant”.  

Years went by hoping her agency would grow to the potential of her work experience, Gina faced the reality that most African Females face in the business industry. This experience would have made her give up, but she kept going. 

Gina started doing auditions and was able to get a commercial gig from one of the largest telecommunication companies in Nigeria called Globacom. That was the start of her journey into film and TV production.

Years later she decided to focus on her agency and started building slowly day by day. From being digital partner with the African Rising International Film Festival – ARIFF, to creating her own high ticket boutique agency. With all challenges faced and not backing down, this woman deserves to be celebrated or at least recognized. 

Her journey in the digital marketing industry had her path crossed with Maiquel Tavares who is the founder and CEO of Ojimah, a travel tech solution that’s about to change the travel industry as we know it. 

Gina currently holds the position as Director of Business Development; a role which involves new prospects acquisition as well as digital marketing advisory. 

She also started a self-help podcast called A 1000 Voices Podcast. This leading podcast is a self help show that talks about oneself. Self love, self care, self healing, self development and so much more. 

The first 42 episodes is  her just sharing her life’s experience and what it took for her to get to where she is. Her goal is to use her story to help individuals across the globe overcome  the challenges of life, and make their lives better.
